Thomas J. Abercrombie (August 13, 1930 – April 3, 2006)

Thomas J. Abercrombie (August 13, 1930 – April 3, 2006) was a senior staff writer and photographer for National Geographic, well known for his work on Middle Eastern countries...
After 1965 Abercrombie frequently covered Saudi Arabia and he converted to the Muslim faith, taking the name Omar. He was the magazine's expert on the Middle East, and reported from Mecca.
He covered the region from Morocco to Afghanistan for more than three decades, until he retired in 1994. During his forty years at National Geographic, he published forty stories from all around the world.
Over the years, he became the magazine's expert on the Arab world, and he was so impressed by Islam that he read the Quran in Arabic and became a Muslim.
He made four pilgrimages to Mecca, where he took the first photographs of the city made for the Western world.
Truly, to Allaah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.”
Brother Omar/Thomas J. Abercrombie passed away in 2006.
May Allaah be pleased with him, have mercy on his soul and grant him Jannah, Aameen!
